Estonia



Estonia (Estonian: Eesti), officially the Republic of Estonia (Estonian: Eesti Vabariik), is a country in the Baltic region of northern Europe. Bounded on the north Gulf of Finland, to the west by the Baltic Sea, on the south by Latvia (343 km), and to the east of Lake Bebos and the Russian Federation (338.6 km). Across the Baltic Sea is located in the west of Sweden and Finland in the north. The territory of Estonia covers 45227 km2 (17462 square miles), and is affected by seasonal climate moderate. The Estonians are people Finnic, and is closely linked is the official language, Estonian, Finnish. Estonia is a democratic parliamentary republic, divided into 15 provinces. The capital and largest city of the capital Tallinn. With a population of 1290000, and is one of the least developed members in terms of population in the European Union, the euro zone, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Estonia has the highest GDP per capita between the republics of the former Soviet Union. Estonia is listed as a "high-income economy" by the World Bank as "advanced economy" by the International Monetary Fund, in a later member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. The United Nations classifies Estonia as a developed country with high human development index too. One theory is that the modern name of Estonia originated from Aesti described by the Roman historian Tacitus in his Germania (about 98 m). On the other hand, ancient Scandinavian sagas refer to a land called Estland, close to the German and Danish, Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian Estland, term of the country.
